Calling Artists!

The Arts Council of Hillsborough County is calling Hillsborough County artists to apply for its 2012 Artist Grants. Grants of up to $1000 each will be awarded. The deadline for applications is Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.

The Individual Artist Grants are awarded to experienced artists in the performing, visual, literary, dance and music disciplines for projects that will further the artist's professional development. Previous grantees have used the award for artistic projects requiring film-making, publishing, equipment purchases, workshops and other endeavors that have taken their career or work to a higher level. Applicants must demonstrate project relevance in their applications.

Candidates must be accomplished creative artists at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of Hillsborough County for 24 consecutive months preceding the deadline. Students pursuing any degree or fulltime faculty in higher education are ineligible.

More information, applications and guidelines are online at www.tampaarts.com or by contacting the Arts Council at 813.276.8250. Deadline for submission to the Arts Council offices, 707 N. Franklin St., 6th floor (Tampa Theatre office  building) is 5:00 p.m. Fri., Jan. 20, 2012.

The Arts Council administers grant programs to the local arts community for the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners, offering grants to cultural organizations and individual artists. More than $600,000 has been awarded to local artists since the program's inception in 1989 and nearly $9 million in annual and special grants to cultural organizations since 1991.
